I’m going to blog about Burnley and NASCAR, and the haters can’t stop me. NASCAR first:
They’re at the Roval, a Frankenstein creation involving Charlotte Motor Speedway and the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Roval used to be fun because it looked dumb and it was born out of necessity (the old car made for fun road course racing). Now, it just looks dumb. Our only hope is some stupid chaotic restart towards the end where a bunch of non-playoff drivers or desperate dudes in the standings try something silly and we get a funnel pileup in the first or second turn. The Indianapolis thing again.
Now, Burnley:
Burnley blew yet another late lead on Wednesday, and I didn’t tell you guys. I couldn’t bring myself to talk about it. It was legitimately frustrating (and, you know, busy week). But, they went to Coventry (the team that didn’t have a field earlier this year because their rugby neighbors played too rough on it) and won, 1-0, and that’s good. They’re still fourth in the table, they’re still third among the big five (and West Brom’s trying to make that a big four), they’re only two points back of both Sheffield United and Norwich, who evidently had terrible weeks (also QPR, but we don’t respect QPR here). In funny EFL Championship stuff, Preston scored three yesterday against Norwich after allowing four all year coming in, and they allowed two after allowing four all year coming in. Those guys seem fun.
We aren’t going to get into Coventry’s history or where Coventry is or what American city is their equivalent. We’re going to do that on the second half of the round robin, because I want to continue to pretend that they’re just the neighborhood in my hometown where my friend Jake lived.

Viewing schedule:
9:30 AM EDT: Giants vs. Packers (NFL Network)
If Aaron Rodgers throws a ball far enough, does he get to be king?
1:00 PM EDT: Lions @ Patriots (FOX)
The Lions are must-watch TV right now. Combine them with Bailey Zappe, and as the kids say, “it’s lit.”
2:00 PM EDT: NASCAR Cup Series: Bank of America Roval 400 (NBC)
We talked about this already.
4:25 PM EDT: Eagles @ Cardinals (FOX)
Cowboys/Rams is also going on at this time, but that game feels boring and this game feels fun. This game feels chaotic. Birds are involved, too, which is fun.
7:07 PM EDT: Padres @ Mets (ESPN)
If the Mets lose, will Mets fans dismantle Citi Field seat by seat and beam by beam? I hope they do. A fanbase silently, fastidiously taking apart their own stadium would be both a proper response to collapse and a very fun precedent to set. We need more consequences for losing in Major League Baseball. This is also why I think we should sink that island Pittsburgh’s on (I’m referring to North America).
