Stu’s Notes: Appreciating Brett Phillips, F1 Drivers Ain’t So Bad, and a Visit from Mr. Darkside?

Did I forget about the Senators’ game last night until after I’d published yesterday’s notes? Yes. But rest assured, I paid just as much attention to the game as I normally do. More, in fact, since I recently turned on push notifications for goals from both the Sens and their opponents.

Anyway, Sens won! Let’s start with that.

The Bike Helmet Videos Are So Fun

Every time the Sens win, they put on “Gimme Gimme Gimme,” we get to watch half of them file into the locker room (the editor always cuts out the middle guys), and they give someone a bike helmet and sunglasses to wear. I don’t know whether they’ll bring all of this or any of it back next year, or if it could have the same charm, but it sure is fun:

The Red Wings were the Sens’ latest victim, with Drake Batherson scoring the decisive goal. Nine games left, all between now and the end of the month. Not a lot to play for, besides helmet videos, which means there’s quite a lot to play for.

F1 Drivers: Cooler Than I’ve Acknowledged

On the topic of the Sens, one of my favorite help-me-know-what’s-going-on-with-the-Senators-through-jokes follows on Twitter made a good point about F1 recently, and I’ve been meaning to address it:

Are there probably thousands of people out there who’d be better than most F1 drivers but will never be discovered? Yes. But there may have been thousands of people who’d have made a better Batman than Bruce Wayne, and we don’t often complain about that.

Appreciating Brett Phillips

It’s rare that a media darling is actually likeable (see: Krzyzewski, Mike), and the comedown from darlinghood is real even when not a full Milkshake Duck situation, but at least for now, Brett Phillips is still a ton of fun, and that’s nice. It’s nice when we can agree on something, and we can agree that this guy rocks.

It’s been a big week for the man once most famous for his ridiculous laugh, with the pitching outing (featuring this catch) and the home run for a child with cancer, and that’s great. For him, for Chloe, for all of us. Good stuff all around.

Mr. Darkside, Is That You?

Finally, in addition to the smiley-face comment yesterday, we’re seeing some mild Mr. Darkside-adjacent behavior in the Google Form from this morning’s Bangers III voting. We’ll take care of it, but it’s sure a pain in the ass. I did have a thought earlier that “Mr. Darkside wouldn’t do this!” but I don’t know why I thought that. Why do I strangely trust this tormentor? Mr. Darkside will not release my psyche. I must find them and take back my sanity.
