Oh, Jed Hoyer’s doing interviews? Jed Hoyer’s saying the Cubs are going to sign one or more free agents? Really?
I love Hoyer, and this isn’t his fault, but come on, guys. There’s nothing to see here. The Cubs are committed to something like $59 million in luxury tax payroll next year. Their payroll was higher than that in the year 2000. Of course they’re going to sign some free agents. They need baseball players. You think they think they’ll play the same roster that’s gone, what, 17-35 since the trade deadline (and that’s with that one seven-game winning streak), minus Matt Duffy and Zach Davies and Robinson Chirinos? They’re going to sign free agents. Tell me something else he said. Stop acting like “yeah, duh, obviously we’ll sign some free agents” is news.
