“So we keep waiting (waiting)
Waiting on Burnley to do something else.” – John Mayer, paraphrased
No exciting new spending to report this week, but we do have rumors, so let’s get to those.
Rumors
Nat Phillips is still being heavily linked to the Clarets. Connor Roberts of Swansea City has started popping up in the mill. And Scotsman Ciaran Dickson is evidently a possibility as well.
Internationals
The Matěj Vydra heroics should come on Sunday, as the Czech Republic takes on Denmark in the quarterfinals, but it’s possible they’re holding off until Wednesday the 7th, when there’s a chance the Czech Republic plays England.
Chris Wood is an Olympian, being named, as expected, to New Zealand’s roster for that (in soccer—no plot twist where he’s also an expert badminton player or anything like that).
Partner Clubs
Cobh Ramblers got past Wexford on Saturday, winning one they were very expected to win. They’re eighth in the table, four points back of playoff territory, and they visit Bray Wanderers on Friday (Bray holds that fifth spot in the table, which is the spot to hit for making the promotion playoff without being better than more than half the league).
Ayr United won a preseason game yesterday against Stranraer FC, having beaten The New Saints F.C. in a friendly on Saturday. Still more than a month from their opener.
Llandudno (which I’ve learned is pronounced something like lan-DID-no) will start their Welsh League Cup (second-best Welsh cup) on July 17th against Denbigh Town, which plays one tier down from our guys in the Welsh pyramid. Still struggling to find friendly results from these fellas, but respect for making it hard. Make me work for it. And ultimately fail.
Portadown got a new defibrillator.
Sean Dyche
No extension announcement yet for Dyche, but he did turn 50, and we also got this video of him laying a hit on a dude back in his playing days, so still a good Sean Dyche week:
Love that man.
