Spain and Wisconsin: More Similar Than You Might Think (This Is an IndyCar Recap)

1. It’s no wonder a Spaniard won in Wisconsin.

You might not think Wisconsin and Spain are similar. You might not have a fierce enough love of charcuterie to have made that connection.

2. Is it Álex Palou’s time?

I’ve lost track of the future-of-IndyCar power rankings, so while I could definitely find them, let’s shift to this: Álex Palou, in what’s kind of his first full season in the series (covid cals don’t count), is now tied for the lead in race wins and leads in points (no longer too early to look at the standings—that was last week). 24 years old, so not entirely a wunderkind, but that’s young for an IndyCar contender, right? Josef Newgarden was…26 when he won his first? After a lot more years on the circuit? Thrilling stuff for the state of Indiana, which I am increasingly convinced is the only place where significant numbers of IndyCar fans live.

3. Is Newgarden waiting or wilting?

There’s a possibility Josef Newgarden comes surging back through the standings. There’s also a possibility he’s stuck in the mire. What times, friends. What times.
