Sometimes, You Don’t Embarrass Liverpool at Home

Well, they gave ‘em a little trouble.

The Result:

Liverpool 2, Burnley 0

How It Happened:

Burnley was overmatched, but at least hung in for a bit and created some early chances. Just no magic this time around.

What It Means:

Relegation probability’s still at 33% over at FiveThirtyEight. Not a huge cause for concern, and with Brighton taking care of business against Watford, both teams to which Burnley’s lost are undefeated through two matches.

What’s Next:

Burnley goes to Newcastle on Wednesday for their first match in the EFL Cup (the Carabao Cup). In EPL action, they’ll host Leeds on Sunday.

Other News:

Matěj Vydra and Ashley Westwood missed the match with a groin issue and a toe issue, respectively. Unclear what their prognoses are.

Burnley FC Women trailed 2-1 today at the half against Nottingham Forest. That’s still underway as this is written.

Among the partner clubs, Cobh Ramblers lost to University College Dublin yesterday, 2-0, entrenching themselves more deeply into ninth place of ten. Ayr United lost to Inverness CT, 1-0, and is one of two or three clubs with just one point in the ten-team Scottish Championship after three matches. Llandudno beat Holywell Town, 2-1, and is sitting right around the middle of Cymru North.

Thoughts:

Would assume we’ll see a B squad on Wednesday. Leeds was tough for Burnley last year, but hopefully the lads can make something happen at home. They got away with last year’s woeful start, but that’s not something you want to try again.
