Should the Cubs Participate in a Yadier Molina Farewell Tour?

Yadier Molina wants a retirement tour, and while disagreements will be had about his true value and how that relates to how annoying he is, whether he gets a retirement tour is largely out of my control (always say things like “largely out of my control”—it makes people wonder how powerful you are).

It’s also out of the Cubs control.

Which is why when it comes to whether or not to honor him at Wrigley Field next season, the Cubs should follow everyone else’s lead.

It’s tempting to want him to not be honored. But that’s what Yadier Molina wants. He wants to be disrespected. He loves having a shred of an argument that he’s been disrespected. He adores accusing others of disrespecting him.

Don’t give him the satisfaction.

Give him a bland gift, give him a moment’s worth of attention, move on. Or, if the rest of the league isn’t doing it, don’t do it. This isn’t something where you want to stand out.
