It’s always a little scary when Joe Kelly pitches against the Cubs, because him getting in a fight with them would force a rupture in my soul.
Thankfully, he didn’t get in a fight last night.
He did hit Willson Contreras on the hand, though. And Willson Contreras is kind of the most irreplaceable Cub right now. So, uh, hopefully that goes ok. He stayed in the game (Contreras, not Kelly—Kelly’s night was done after that), but wouldn’t be surprising if it swelled up and he had to miss time.
In happier news, missed this when it happened but evidently during Kelly’s first sticky stuff check, he had the ump check his goggles “because they’re sick.” So that’s good.
