I know Bevo doesn’t usually do basketball games.
Or rather, I have that impression, based on two months of living in Austin, three Texas home basketball games attended, and some quick googling.
But even if he does sometimes do basketball games, the following point still stands:
Bevo needs to be in New York on Tuesday for Texas’ Final Four game against TCU.
For one thing, the Longhorns need all the powerful vibes they can get.
For another, I think he’d enjoy it. It isn’t every day you get to take a trip to the big city, especially when you’re a steer. Maybe he has some family in the area he’d like to see. Regardless, the animal loves Texas sports, so I can’t imagine he doesn’t want to be there Tuesday night when the Longhorns pursue glory.
Now, I’m not an idiot. I’m just a guy who gets called that a lot. I know it’s logistically difficult to get a 1,800-pound animal with really cool horns all the way from Texas to Manhattan.
But you’re telling me UT couldn’t pull it off for Bevo? I mean the animal is a living legend, for goodness’ sake.
Anyway, I’ve posted the following petition at change.org to try to make this happen, and I’d love your help:
The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team has advanced to the NIT Final Four, placing themselves atop the precipice overlooking college basketball greatness.
To celebrate this historic opportunity (an NIT title would be the program’s second ever, and first since 1978), and to will the Longhorns to the most triumphant of victories (again, first championship in the world’s best tournament since 1978, people), we, the undersigned, implore the University of Texas to get Bevo to New York City.
Critics have long contended that UT doesn’t put enough energy into its basketball program. I mean, I’ve been to three straight NIT games and I didn’t see Bevo at a single one! Now is the time to rectify this. Get Bevo on a private jet and have Matthew McConaughey march with him, side by side, through the gates of Madison Square Garden Tuesday night.
