Ok, We’re a Little Cooler with the Earned Run Rules Now

First off, apologies for the delay on this. Meant to get it up yesterday but it’s a bit of an odd weekend here at the blog.

Secondly, the earned run rules came through.

A few days ago, we complained because Joe Kelly left a runner on first with one out and that runner came around to score, through little fault of Joe Kelly’s. His ERA suffered. Well, fate would have it that come Friday night, in an inning in which our guy walked a guy and hit a guy, he did get away with an unearned run, as the guy who scored reached on an error. Was the error on Joe Kelly? No. Could Joe Kelly have gotten out of it had the guy not reached on the error? Probably. But either way, we’re slightly more cool with the earned run rules now.

Kelly also was hitting 99 mph and struck two guys out to work out of the jam after the run scored, so pretty good outing all around. ERA’s at 3.68. xERA’s at 3.77. FIP’s at 3.22. fWAR’s at 0.2. With just one game left before the All-Star Break.
