I’ll be honest, this is the first I’m hearing of the Bought Milk case. I didn’t really lean into milk content until 2018. The lawsuit was settled in 2017. But with news about the payouts today (bh/t to our friend Derek, who’s on a real heater this afternoon), I looked it up, and, well, here are the details.
Reactions:
We want a healthy dairy industry. One in which cows are treated well, people are treated well, farmers make a good living, and we get to drink good milk. That’s our goal here when it comes to dairy. Removing cows from the herd might be part of this, but ideally that would be done in a humane way where the cows are used for beef, or in a humane way where the cows get to hang out on a pasture into their old age. Not that this is the responsibility of farmers—farmers are trying to make a living. Maybe we need a cow retirement tourism industry? Bunch of big ol’ cow-based petting zoos? I don’t know. I don’t know enough about the dairy industry to have a solution. It’s tough! It’s a sad thing about life, death is.
Anyway, we’re anti price-fixing, for the record. All about boosting the dairy price by drinking lots of milk, though (also all about boosting humane dairy I mean really there is not nearly enough dairy-based small-farm tourism in this country, and I say that because I have looked, folks).
you’re anti-price fixing? dang, i’m VERY pro-price fixing.
this seems like an unsurmountable disagreement. i think the only way we can settle this…is with a duel!
