Nothing to Lose for the Burnleys

There are some things in life you just have to go through. Today might turn out well for Burnley. “Might” might be a reach there.

Whom:

Burnley vs. Manchester City

What:

Premier League match number nine for our lads

Where:

Man City. Manchester. Etihad Stadium (to answer your question, I just checked, and Etihad’s an airline out of the U.A.E., which is probably what you guessed).

When:

9:00 AM American Central Standard Time

How to Watch:

NBCSN! Not gonna be home, so going to miss it, but it’s possible to see in the States without a Peacock subscription. Presumably because of the massive ad revenue Burnley games bring NBC.

What’s at Stake:

Not a lot. Burnley’s still trying to shake themselves free of the relegation part of the table, but this hasn’t exactly been circled on anyone’s calendar as an opportunity. Of the three teams behind them, two—West Brom and Sheffield—play each other today while the third—Fulham—plays Leicester. Sheffield’s too far back of Burnley to pass them, even with a win. West Brom would pass Burnley with a win. Fulham would pull even with a draw, and would pull ahead with a win. Assuming Burnley loses. Which is a fair assumption.

The Odds:

The YAHOO SPORTS APP™ is telling me that BetMGM is telling it that Man City’s a -715 favorite, with Burnley at +1650 and a draw at +750. So we’re looking at maybe a 5% chance Burnley wins, and maybe a 10% or 11% chance Burnley ties.

Could be worse.

Theoretically.

The Opponent:

Man City. Lot of money has been spent building this club. Won the Premier League two of the last three years. Won the FA Cup two years ago. Won the League Cup each of the last three years, and five of the last seven. Have qualified for the Champions League for a decade straight. Burnley hasn’t beaten them since 2015, and has lost 5-0 three times in the years since.

Burnley News:

Nick Pope banged up his head on Monday and might miss the action today, which would give Bailey Peacock-Farrell his first Premier League start. Robbie Brady, Dale Stephens, and Jack Cork are the other injured Clarets.

Bertie News:

Radio silence.
