It’s not unusual for NIT fans to approach me and say, “Man, NIT winners are a lot like one-term presidents, eh?”
To which I must say, no. No, they are not.
Here are the main differences:
- NIT champions are basketball teams. They are not individual human beings.
- NIT champions earn their title on a basketball court. They do not receive it by vote.
- The NIT does not, as of yet, use the electoral college.
- It’s much more common for an NIT champion to hold the title for just one year than it is for a president to hold the title for just one term.
- One-year NIT champions are often happy to not be repeat winners (we’re working on changing this). One-term presidents are often unhappy to not repeat their victory.
- NIT champions have a lot more power than the president of the United States.
Hope that’s settled now.
