NITennessee

It all happened so fast.

One day, Tennessee was an irrelevant college basketball program, doomed to compete for the SEC Championship and play on CBS on some Sunday afternoons near the end of March.

Another day, with some days in between, they’re in the thick of the NIT race.

The real (sixth day of) Christmas miracle.

No, the Volunteers aren’t the most likely team to make the NIT. But we can’t all be Rutgers, ok? Tennessee is doing the best they can, and they’re in a really good spot, right in the thick of things. Think Joe has ‘em as a two-seed? That’s impressive. Dropped a lot of seed lines to get to that point (I look at that other bracketology so you don’t have to).

Anyway, I know very little about Tennessee.

The basketball program.

Know a decent amount about the state but we won’t get into that.

The basketball program. What I know. Grant Williams played there? Admiral Schofield?

Just googled Admiral Schofield half-expecting that I got him confused with the guy who beat Napoleon at Waterloo (great song). Didn’t get him confused with that guy. That guy evidently wasn’t Admiral Schofield. The real Schofield looks a little like Keenan Thompson crossed with Gerald Martin Johanssen. Not that I’d know what a cross between those two looks like. I didn’t steal their DNA. You have the wrong blogger.

And that Grant Williams guy. Pretty sure he and Tacko Fall are buds now.

Anyway, I know little besides that. Bruce Pearl is gone. Know that much. Don’t know who their coach is now. Guessing I know it but just can’t think of it right now. Going to have to learn that. Going to have to learn the other things too. Because ladies and gentleman, Tennessee is in the NIT building. They’ve taken off their coat. And I’m not giving it back.

Postscript Rick Barnes I should have known that. Thought he was stuck in the year 2008.
