NIT vs. NBA: Mac McClung’s Choice

Mac McClung’s only NIT appearance didn’t go as planned. The then-freshman scored just ten points on fifteen field goal attempts, with little else notable in his stat line as Georgetown, a 3-seed, fell to 6-seeded Harvard in the 2019 first round.

This weighs heavy on McClung’s mind, one would imagine, as he prepares to make the biggest decision of his life:

NIT? Or NBA?

McClung’s NIT path isn’t guaranteed if he transfers. One player can only do so much. But if he goes pro, the chance is never coming back. It’s now or never to confront those demons and make those dreams come true.

McClung is, of course, just one of many players facing this sort of decision these next few weeks. But he’s noteworthy, because, well, he’s pretty exciting to watch and his interviews are chaotically charming.

We’ll see what he chooses. We’ll see if a draft evaluation makes the choice for him. We’ll see if, in the event he does return to college, he chooses to transfer somewhere with a real NIT chance.

We’ll see.
