The NIT announced this morning that this year, it will announce its bracket online. We’ve confirmed that this means there won’t be a 2025 NIT Selection Show (sometimes called the NIT Selection Special).
We’re disappointed. The Selection Show is always fun, and last year it gave us that great Tom Crean quote after the opt-outs, the one where he said basketball coaches should coach basketball rather than quitting on their players to go get better ones. Our guess is that after last year’s opt-outs, the people who run the NIT want to avoid a scenario where they don’t get ESPN the NIT bracket on time. If that is the reasoning, that’s fair. That’d be an unforced error.
Obviously, the proper response here is that The Barking Crow needs to be more proactive next season. If we find out they aren’t doing an NIT Selection Show, we need to do our own as the bracket gets released online. We’ll work on making that possible. In the meantime, you can find the NIT Bracket on Sunday night on Instagram or Twitter/X. We’ve heard we should expect it by 10:00 PM Eastern Time.
