NIT Bracketology: Wednesday, January 10th

Our NIT Bracketology is updated, and it’s a loaded field. As currently projected…

  • In Hoosier action not involving the Hoosiers, Indiana State would host Butler—the Final Four host—in the first round.
  • In Old Big East action, Providence would host Boston College in the first round.
  • In Tylor Perry grudge match action, Kansas State would host North Texas in the first round.
  • Seven ACC teams are projected to make the field.
  • LeBron James’s son is projected to make the field.
  • Eight ACC teams are projected to make the field if you count SMU.

Last Four In, First Four Out (on the high side):

  • In, from least safe to safest: Indiana State, Providence, Wake Forest, New Mexico.
  • Out, from closest to furthest: Florida, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M.

Last Four In, First Four Out (on the low side):

  • In, from least safe to safest: Arkansas, Boston College, Washington State, Pitt.
  • Out, from closest to furthest: Minnesota, George Mason, Drake, Michigan (or Arizona State—we still don’t know what to do with sub-.500 teams looking for at-large bids).

In the mix (further teams on the low side):

  • Should finish .500 or better: Richmond, UMass, UNLV, Duquesne.
  • Should finish worse than .500: Indiana, Rutgers, LSU, Florida State, Stanford.

We don’t know when we’ll next update the bracket. Hopefully soon. It’s fun to look at. Gets me dreaming about the NIT. Look at Hinkle there in the background, waiting for us:
