NIT Bracket Challenge: Where Things Stand Entering the Final Four

Ok, everybody. Here’s the deal with the NIT Bracket Challenge.

First, here are the full scoreboards if you want them.

Second, our scenario calculations from last week still seem to be correct.

We won’t be able to update the scoreboard all that quickly, since I’ll need to get back from the games tonight and get to my computer. This is important: You can check for updates, but they won’t be there for a little while after the games are done. Once we have the scoreboards updated, we’ll send out an update. In lieu of that, though, please refer to the linked scenarios above, which have the following implications:

  • If Wisconsin and Utah Valley both win, Jake Marsh clinches the NIT Bracket Challenge Title.
  • If Utah Valley wins, the possibility of a tie for a spot in the top three is in play, and we’ll prepare to use the Roulette Tiebreaker. This is true regardless of who wins the first semifinal. Different brackets in play, but a tiebreaker could be needed either way.

Here’s how the Roulette Tiebreaker will work, if it comes to that:

  • If the Roulette Tiebreaker is in play, I will take a witness to a casino tomorrow and play roulette. The first spin is what counts, and in the postgame update tonight, I will let you know what all relevant parties are looking for on said spin.
  • It’s possible the bracket challenge still won’t end with a relevant tie, but this way, we’ll have the number if we need it, and I’ll have an excuse to gamble because hey why not get $100 in chips instead of the table minimum and hey well I’ll have some left over. We’ll let all of you know what the number is. I’m not familiar with casino livestream rules/laws, but if anyone is, let me know. Maybe we’ll livestream it. At the very least, we’ll document it quickly on Twitter and Instagram.

Thanks, as always, for your participation in the NIT Bracket Challenge. We’re excited for all of you with teams still in play, and we’re excited for these next three days, when the scores will be settled.

Until toNITe,

  1. Live Stream is a likely no go, photos OK at some. Most Roulette tables have a number tracker monitor, so I suggest you get a selfie with that from a quieter table at photo-friendly casino.

    From the 2019 article
    https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/some-las-vegas-casinos-allowing-photos-on-casino-floor-1918934/

Wondering where to snap a selfie on the Strip? Here’s a roundup of photography rules for a few Las Vegas casinos.

Binion’s and Four Queens: Photographs, but not videos, are permitted inside the property.

Boyd Gaming: Customers can take photos of themselves, friends and family at Boyd properties, but photography of other customers or team members who have not consented not permitted.

Caesars Entertainment Corp.: Photos at Caesars’ Las Vegas properties are allowed “under certain circumstances.” The company recommends guests find guidance from a gaming team member.

Rampart casino: Photos on the property are allowed, as long as it’s not interrupting any guest experience. Photos cannot include game play or other customers. Videos and live streams are not allowed.

Sahara Las Vegas: Photos and videos are restricted on the casino floor.

Strat: Players are welcome to take photos and selfies on the casino floor. Videos and live streams are not permitted.
