NASCAR: Yesterday’s Fight, Today’s Race

Normally, we would lead with the Cup race.

But the Xfinity Series gaveth yesterday.

All season, Noah Gragson’s been a butthead. We talked about this a couple weeks ago, heading into Las Vegas. That’s the background.

Yesterday, on the expected final pit-stop of the race, Daniel Hemric had to swing around the pit stall behind him when a lapped car missed his mark. This, in turn, added a hiccup to Gragson’s pit stop. Gragson’s response?

Flipping Hemric the bird, then backing into Hemric’s car (which is real dangerous for Hemric’s pit crew, we should add).

Hemric’s response?

Bob and weave. Gragson got punched.

And to hear a lot of people tell it, it’s about time.

Today’s race:

Where It Is

Atlanta. 1.5-miler, kind of a tri-oval (swings wide on the front stretch), hasn’t been repaved in forever which makes cars slide around a little bit.

When It Is

Green flag reportedly at 3:19 PM EDT.

How to Watch

Who to Watch

Per Bovada, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson are the favorites at +550, with Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr. all at +600. Joey Logano’s at +800. Kyle Busch is at +1000. Ryan Blaney and William Byron are at +1400. In other words, open field, best drivers have the best chance to win.

How NASCAR Should Script It

Wouldn’t be the worst idea to get Truex hot after last week’s win. Having one of the regulars get in the win column would also be good. No need for anything too fancy. Do try to get someone to do a Daniel Hemric impression, though.

Trucks, Xfinity

Justin Allgaier won the Xfinity race. Kyle Busch won in the trucks.
