Last week, we reached the point in the season—which is, for the record, about three weeks in—where I stop paying attention to NASCAR. Baseball starts getting close, college basketball picks up in a big way, and I rather quickly stop keeping an eye on what’s going on over on the asphalt.
Which is why I didn’t realize there was a fight on Friday!
Now, it wasn’t a huge one by any stretch (here’s a link to a video if you want to watch), but Daniel Suárez and Michael McDowell were upset with each other after a specific qualifying lap, and they decided to handle it in a way that calls attention to their sport.
I saw a headline when searching for the video that said NASCAR had the two in for a little talk. We can only hope the talk went like this:
NASCAR: Hey, you guys got in a fight.
Suárez & McDowell (in unison): Sure did.
NASCAR (I’m picturing the personification of NASCAR as a man who is clearly uncomfortable in his suit and is sweating a little bit—just enough to not want to sit still): Think you could do it again sometime? It generated a little buzz.
