NASCAR, New Hampshire Preview: The Chase for the Chase Begins

NASCAR’s returning today from its week-plus hiatus, and the storylines are much the same: Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin are the favorites. We’re still waiting for Kyle Busch to do something. Jimmie Johnson’s in a bad place when it comes to making the playoffs in his final season.

Time is running out on this last one—not just for Johnson, but for Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones as well, and for Matt DiBenedetto and William Byron on the (for now) right side of the cut line. It looks like we’ve got seven races over the month of August, at the end of which the playoff field will be set. The chase for the chase starts today, one could say.

The race is at New Hampshire. It’s a short track—just about a mile. Don’t know that there’s much more to know. More to come.
