Two things stand out to me when I think about Martinsville. The first is that in EA Sports’ NASCAR 06 for Playstation 2, nobody braked fast enough going into the corners, so turns one and three were always big chains of rear-end collisions (I’m certain of this with the truck series, but might be wrong about the higher levels). The second is that on the drive from Roanoke to Greensboro after I got security called on me at the Roanoke Airport two falls ago (some of you may remember it as the mini-golf day), I drove past Martinsville. Didn’t see the track, but man—beautiful part of the country.
NASCAR’s racing there tonight. Or at least trying to. Rain’s in the forecast, and with the schedule set up this weekend the way it is, a rain makeup tomorrow is evidently not an option.
If they do pull the race off, the most prominent storyline is that we’ll see Bubba Wallace rocking this paint scheme (I’m assuming he’ll run it the next time the lads race, regardless of what happens with rain tonight):
Fingers crossed.
UPDATE (6/10, 4:17 PM CDT):
Hadn’t seen this news before I posted. Co-most prominent storylines now.
