Well, doesn’t seem like that lived up to the hype.
We wanted absolute madness. And while we did get this…
(Was that actually Kyle Busch missing the turn? I don’t know. Might’ve been a different issue.)
…we didn’t get mayhem with drivers taking on this particular road course for the first time in their lives.
It was a weird day. For one thing, they were at Daytona, but they were not going fast:
For another, there was some lightning in the middle that drew a red flag, and the heat took J.J. Yeley out of his vehicle.
But overall?
Nothing too exciting. Chase Elliott got the win, even after this brought out a caution late in the day:
Evidently Elliott’s good at road courses, so no big surprise. No major changes to the standings either—Jimmie Johnson’s still got a lot of ground to make up these next two weekends if he’s going to catch William Byron and make the playoffs in his final year. Currently, the veteran’s 25 points back of his teammate and 44 behind Matt DiBenedetto, whom he’d have to somehow catch were a driver behind him in the standings to get a win and narrow the playoff field by a spot.
Vroom vroom.
