Well, we enjoyed Michigan State while they were here.
Sparty beat up Rutgers last night in East Lansing, and with it did a real number on their own NIT hopes. Old habits die hard, I suppose.
Elsewhere:
- We bid Alabama farewell, and we wish Nate Oats the best. But we want him to know: If he ever wants to come home, we’ll be here.
- Kentucky beat Vanderbilt by three, and we don’t think that’s enough for an NIT team, but a loss would’ve really dashed our hopes there. Still intrigued. Cat with a possibly-dead chipmunk.
- NC State avoided disaster, pushing Clemson to overtime over in the Littlejohn. Wonder what a Littlejohn is. I’d ask, but I’d probably get some lecture on how Dabo Swinney should win a MacArthur Prize.
- Marquette continues to flounder, dropping one by double digits to UConn at home. Well done, Eagles.
- Mississippi State and Mizzou symbiosised the shit out of their game in Stark Vegas in the lovely occasion that got people to ask of both teams, “Could these guys make the NIT?”
- Dayton lost to another bad team. We won’t be seeing them for a while, and to be clear: It’s not us. It’s them.
- Tonight, Seton Hall visits Creighton in Omaha, and we’re sitting here screaming “DON’T DO IT” because if they win this game they’re toast. Really hoping they have something up their sleeve that’ll turn this back around. Feels like there’s a movie I could reference here but that sleeve thing has me only thinking of The Prestige. Dammit.
- Rhode Island goes down to Richmond in a game that makes us blush. You shouldn’t have, Atlantic 10 conference. It’s perfect.
- Mississippi tries to recalibrate after a wild few days, hosting Zombie Auburn in Oxford. It’s a win-win for the program. Oh wait. Nope. Forgot the “this is fine” meme didn’t include Kermit. As you were.
- Tulsa’s already an NIT bid contender, but are they an NITitle contender? If they can win at the Yuengling Center (yeah, we’re jealous of USF too) we might find out.
- Xavier hosts the kings, St. John’s. Will the torch be passed?
- GREAT opportunity for VCU to lose to a bad team on the road, heading up to Fairfax to play the George Mason “Remember-2006?”es. Rubbing our palms together just thinking about it.
- Feeling nostalgic for the 2019 NIT race? UNC-Greensboro plays at Wofford. Neither team’s all that good this year, but it turned out they weren’t that great in 2019 either. So enjoy!
- I’m guessing they already know this, but we would like to remind Boise State that Air Force has the capability to take military action if Boise does the thing they did to New Mexico twice and San José State once. Be smart up there, guys. We need you. (Side note is Boise State’s basketball court blue? I hope it’s blue.)
