Michigan in Nashville, Cincy on Long Island: The NIT Second Round Begins

ToNITe…well, this afternoon…toNITe we get only two games. It’s just two games, one of them is on ESPN+, the NIT is doing the sleeping part of being a sleeper cell this morning.

But when we awake?

I’m swapping more malfunctioning rims into NCA* *********t second round locations, baby.

No, no, when we awake the NIT is going to get loud. So get your ears ready, NIT friends and fiends. The two biggest games of the day are coming straightaway:

12:00 PM EDT: Michigan @ Vanderbilt (ESPN)

The game of the tournament, some are saying, as we really truly do not know who is going to win. This feels like one where Michigan’s staff might’ve said, “Let the kids have fun,” and taken them out for good barbecue last night that will leave Kobe Bufkin in need of a loo this morning. It also feels like one where Michigan might big-brother Vandy and do the thing where the more talented team wins decisively. Also could see it being one where Vandy comes out scrappy and firing and the crowd is loud or at least ESPN producers are generous with their levels. Three good possibilities there.

2:00 PM EDT: Cincinnati @ Hofstra (ESPN+)

I have no idea how ticket sales are going but I’m dearly hoping this place is packed. Dearly, dearly, dearly. This is a massive test of how much Hofstra cares about basketball dressed up as a test of how much basketball fans care about the NIT. I do not know which real test I’d prefer.

**

We’ll have a Bracket Challenge update after the games are complete, and we’ll have more updates in the morning. Godspeed, NIT friends and fiends. Godspeed.
