Manchester? I Hardly Know ‘Er!

I don’t know man I’m not feeling that confident.

Whom:

Burnley @ Manchester United

What:

EPL Match number 16 for the Burnleys

Where:

Turf Moor

When:

2:15 PM American Central Standard Time

How to Watch:

NBCSN! (the exclamation point is mine I’m excited I’m gonna watch)

What’s at Stake:

Burnley’s trying to beat Man U for the second straight time, having won two-nil on the road a year ago. I don’t know exactly how that happened. It was right at the start of a nice stretch for the lads that culminated in the coronavirus taking over the world. Anyway, they’re trying to do it again, and The Internet™seems a little more confident than I am, but maybe they’re just trolling, and they do definitely know more than I do.

In EPL ramifications land, Burnley’s trying to extend the gap between themselves and Brighton over the next ten days, a stretch in which Burnley plays Man U, West Ham, and Liverpool while Brighton plays Man City and Leeds. It’s not do-or-die—we’re not halfway through the season, and Burnley will have a match in hand even after these ten days, and that match in hand is against Fulham—but if Burnley can get a point or three today, it’ll go a ways towards clearing them of relegation danger. As it stands entering the match, Burnley leads Brighton by two and Fulham by five, with Fulham in the top-most relegation position with the same number of games in hand as Burnley.

The Odds:

The YAHOO SPORTS APP is saying BetMGM is saying Man U’s a -250 favorite, with a draw at +375 and Burnley winning at +675. All of which translates to something like a 70% chance Man U wins, a 20% chance there’s a draw, and a 10% chance Burnley pulls off the upset.

I’ve never liked BetMGM.

The Opponent:

Manchester United. I believe you’ve heard of them.

Burnley News:

Burnley’s got Nick Pope back in goal, and is hoping to have Ashley Westwood and Josh Brownhill back, which makes it sound like they were perhaps positive covid tests. Unclear to me if any of Charlie Taylor, Kevin Long, Dwight McNeil, and Jay Rodriguez are healthy. Burnley’s lil preview online said they “face fitness checks.”

Oh also Burnley’s using AI to identify future stars bad news for the rest of the league.

Not a buzz.
