Leicester?! I Hardly…

Nothing to lose, gentlemen.

Whom:

Burnley vs. Leicester City

What:

EPL match number six.

Where:

The city of Leicester.

When:

10:00 AM EDT

How to Watch:

NBCSN! American audiences cannot get enough of the Clarets.

What’s at Stake:

A bit of a free play here for the lads, who are clear underdogs. Grab a point, and you’re feeling better about climbing out of the relegation zone. Grab three points, you’re probably out of the relegation zone. Don’t grab a point, whatever.

On the one hand, it would be frustrating to continue the good run of play and take another loss while doing it, but on another, it would be disappointing to just not show up, so there’s that element as well. Obviously, you want to play well, but there could be some silly narratives if Burnley does play well and still loses.

The Odds:

I’m seeing Leicester at -175, Burnley at +500, and a draw at +285. So. The probability of Burnley getting at least a point is likely around 40%.

Burnley Squad:

We may see Maxwel Cornet make a start. We may see Jay Rodriguez up front (“It is a very helpful trait for a striker to score four goals in a game” – Sean Dyche). In terms of injuries, Dale Stephens is still unavailable, Connor Roberts sounds to be unavailable, Kevin Long and Josh Brownhill and Wayne Hennessey are all questionable.

The Opponent:

The Foxes are off to a bit of a slow start, sitting just twelfth in the table having won twice and lost thrice. FiveThirtyEight rates them the ninth-best club in the league, in between Brighton and Everton (not in the order you might expect, unless you are an Everton fan).

Other Burnley News:

I haven’t seen anything.

Burnley FC Women:

The women’s team visits Hull City tomorrow. Hull City’s in last in the table.

Partner Clubs:

Cobh Ramblers (Ireland, second tier) hosts middle-of-the-table Bray today.

Ayr United (Scotland, second tier) hosts Greenock Morton today, which sits two spots below them in the standings.

Portadown (Northern Ireland, first tier) hosts Dungannon Swifts in a last-place showdown today.

Llandudno (Wales, second tier) doesn’t play again until next weekend.
