Josh Pastner’s Still At It

Is this your king, America? (The correct answer is yes.)

Our hero did it again. Georgia Tech beat UNC in a big one. The Yellow Jackets are firmly in the NIT picture. We could meet Josh Pastner. Provided we all vaccinate each other quickly enough to have a full NIT. Be good, everyone.

Other notes of note:

  • Seton Hawk’s Pro Skater rode up the halfpipe again, demolishing Xavier in Cincinnati. The Pirates have played with us before and come straight down from it, so keep an eye out for what they do Saturday back home against Butler.
  • Richmond got a nice win over Davidson. Nice as we understand it, because we understand Richmond’s true (NIT) form. Tough day for the Wildcats, who were looking to get into the thick of it.
  • Rhode Island beat St. Bonaventure in Kingston, which isn’t surprising but could flip the two in some projections.
  • Penn State avoided disaster, losing to Indiana in overtime in Bloomington.
  • Mississippi State won at Georgia, potentially resurrecting the Cowbells’ hopes for March. We’ll always keep an eye on Stark Vegas. On principle. Right now, it matters.
  • NC State played with fire against Boston College, but much like the bush that greeted Moses, the Wolf Pack did not burn. Probably not regrettable, but who can say what the final tally will read?
  • Dayton’s stock is plummeting after they lost a home game to La Salle. Do the Flyers want it? Do the Flyers want it enough? Do the Flyers want it and are they just confused?
  • TCU played a bad team close again. All this winking and nodding from the Horned Frogs but we’re a little concerned Jamie Dixon’s asleep at the wheel. Lose in Manhattan this weekend and I’m not sure TCU’s in our bracket come Tuesday. Might not be in there with a win depending what the others do.
  • Belmont took care of Murray State with ease in an Ohio Valley Watershed moment. The Bruins move into a strong place in the auto-bid race.
  • Colorado visits USC tonight in some peripheral-to-the-bubble action. We always have eyes on Enfield.
  • Utah visits UCLA, and Larry Krystkowiak has these dudes closer to the NIT than we thought. Want to know a secret? If you get someone to think they brought up the Pac-12 race and then say, “Utah. Young team. Probably a year away but interesting,” people will think you know a lot more about basketball than you do.

Happy last breaths, 2020. You lacked an NIT, and you didn’t make up for it.
