Joe Kelly’s Shoulder Injury: A Dodger Death Sentence, or a Rallying Cry?

Well, it’s been a day, and Ashton Kutcher has not broken through our walls. This seems to really be happening. Joe Kelly seems to be missing these playoffs with a reinjured shoulder.

What happened? Who is at fault? How do the Dodgers manage to injure every single pitcher they have? Why did we ask who’s at fault when we know it’s the Dodgers? What in the hell is Los Angeles’s Major League Baseball franchise doing to its pitchers? How many Tommy John surgeries will Shohei Ohtani have before his contract with the Dodgers ends?

Unfortunately, we have more questions right now than answers. All we know, answers-wise, is what Dave Roberts said yesterday, the doom of the situation overshadowing what should have been a joyous Dodger victory:

“His last pitch in a simulated game, throwing a changeup, he felt something in his shoulder.”

“I think if we were fortunate enough to get to the World Series, I think that would be the first conversation.”

Our only hope is that this is some motivational tactic, some idea to inspire the Dodgers to rally together on behalf of their leader. Maybe Roberts thinks that under Joe Kelly’s banner, the Dodgers can win a pennant, fueled by their motivation to see the greatest pitch in the Fall Classic once again.

That is literally our only hope.

In the meantime, good luck to Dodger fans trying to bear the weight of these bullpen games with no Joe Kelly to lead them. Maybe read a little Job tonight to prepare yourselves.
