Joe Kelly took care of business yesterday, entering with the game well in hand and leaving with the game well in hand. He did allow a two-strike home run to Yan Gomes, which you don’t want to do. But that happens, and in the grand scheme of things it was meaningless. It was the first home run he’s allowed since May, demonstrating progress after he allowed two in his first two outings of the year and three in the season’s first month.
Our hero did strike out Victor Robles and Adam Eaton, which was exciting, and while the outing pushed his ERA up to 5.35, his FIP is still only 4.10 (he’s had some bad luck, people), and his Post-Joe Kelly Bobblehead Night ERA sits at 1.93.
Things remain swell in Joe Kelly-land.
