Ok, so Joe Kelly’s sample size isn’t that large. An “injury” (i.e., shadow suspension) and a suspension have limited his innings. But the man’s thrown nearly a complete game now, and he hasn’t allowed a run. It’s historic. Unprecedented. A full (work with me here) season with a 0.00 ERA? Not sure that’s ever been done, folks.
The question that comes when pondering this is, of course: How is Joe Kelly doing this?
And the answer to that question is, of course: By being nasty.
More scientifically, though (In this house, we believe in science and the NIT), the man’s just relying on his curveball, as he did in the post-Joe Kelly Bobblehead Night dominant stretch of 2019. Look at the pitch percentages. LOOK AT THEM:
The story’s clear. The fans love the gas. The players can’t hit the curve. Mix them together, and you have the most electric player in baseball.
