Joe Kelly got the win last night. Dave Roberts looked at the situation (his team was trailing by one run, and legend Clayton Kershaw was pitching well and had plenty in the tank) and said he needed Joe Kelly, and boy, was he right. Joe Kelly entered, threw a scoreless seventh (nine pitches, three outs, nothing hit hard as usual, one strikeout), the Dodgers scored a bunch of runs, and voila: a Dodgers victory.
Winning wasn’t the only thing Joe Kelly did, of course. He hit 97 a couple times, which is encouraging regarding his health. He flashed a nice changeup, which is encouraging since we missed that from him last year. And, as always, he looked cool doing it.
A frequently anti-Joe Kelly source in Los Angeles, who is unnamed (pretty terrible parents, if you ask me), texted me the following today:
“Joe Kelly was nasty last night
And I’m not even trolling you”
*looks you straight in the eyes*
I think that’s all we need to say.
