The Dodgers are getting the band back together.
Having failed to win a World Series without Joe Kelly, the Dodgers are returning to what worked in 2020, reportedly trading someone Jeff Passan has called a “strapping” young pitcher, another prospect, and Trayce Thompson for Kelly and Lance Lynn. The deal returns Joe Kelly to his birthplace of southern California, and it returns the Dodgers to World Series contention.
We’re obviously very happy for Joe Kelly, and we express our sincere condolences to Thompson and pitching prospects Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure, all of whom reportedly now work for the White Sox. Thompson’s career is mostly what it is at this point, but that really sucks for Nastrini and Leasure, both of whom just went from an organization pretty good at making young players succeed to an organization which is bad at just about everything.
Another angle here: Is Lance Lynn going to get hot now? We don’t mean hot as in “pitching well.” That seems likely, Lance Lynn’s a baller, a change of scenery and getting out of that bandbox of a park and getting to pitch in front of a competent defense should do wonders for Lance Lynn’s results. We mean hot as in hott. Two t’s. Is Lance Lynn gonna have a glow-up now that he lives in LA? The world is not prepared for Hot Lance Lynn.
Exciting times for baseball fans everywhere, and thrilling news for the Joe Kelly faithful among our ranks. Our bedtimes just got a whole lot later.
Why don’t you give America what it wants (talk about how great it is to live in Los Angeles)
