“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his (shoulder’s health) for his bullpen.”
Well, Joe Kelly’s on the IL. After putting his body on the line for the Dodgers on Friday night, our hero was removed from the active roster yesterday. The cause? Shoulder inflammation.
The hope is that this is a maintenance move, that the Dodgers are going to rest their bullpen ace for two weeks then bring him back to peak in October. But we aren’t going to sugarcoat this, America. There is a real possibility that Joe Kelly is too beat up to pitch in the postseason. We may be facing a Joe Kelly-less year of playoff baseball.
We will, of course, monitor the situation and keep you all informed. In the meantime, light your candles and say your chants for healing. Together, we can get that body ready to pump triple digits on the corners in five weeks’ time.
