Adam Wainwright really liked the Macarena.
Specifically, Adam Wainwright really liked that Joe Kelly is entering the game these days to what Joe Davis described as a version of the Macarena with some “flair” added in.
Joe Kelly is nothing if not flair-ful.
Adam Wainwright is nothing if not grateful for his time in St. Louis alongside the greatest pitcher of this generation.
I believe what Wainwright said was, “That is the most Joe Kelly thing…entering the game to the Macarena.”

Not a bad outing for our guy yesterday. He hung a fastball, which you never want to do, but Wilyer Abreu pulled a Won’t-yer Abreu and didn’t hit it out of the park (great throw by Andy Pages, by the way, to almost get Abreu at second). Besides that, Joe Kelly was electric. One strikeout. One walk. Hit 100 mph, so you know he’s healthy. Inspired millions. Made Adam Wainwright’s day. Wasn’t exactly on the same page as Will Smith, but they’re professionals, and they navigate these situations, and I assume Won’t Smith will be back to being Will Smith at any moment now. In the meantime, Joe Kelly willed the Dodgers to victory over his old team. Willed them. Didn’t won’t them.
I’d be surprised if we see Joe Kelly tonight, but the baseball world does recognize its greatest promotional asset. It wouldn’t surprise anyone in the world if the Kelly family receives a little extra cash when Joe pitches in nationally broadcast games. A growing–the–game bonus. If anybody’s secretly receiving one of these, it’s Joe Kelly.
