Joe Kelly Keeps Getting Outs

Joe Kelly was *sharp* last night.

Also accidentally drilled an umpire in the shoulder.

But those things happen.

With uncertainty over the length of his suspension still looming, our hero held the lead in the eighth at Chavez Ravine, inducing two groundouts and a flyout while yielding only one hit—a base hit to center that turned into a double when it snuck past a diving Cody Bellinger.

The umpire thing? Unclear whether anything nefarious was up, but to appearances, it seemed like sign confusion between Kelly and Will Smith—a classic cross-up. Ump seemed fine. Probably kind of honored to be drilled by Joe Kelly. Though likely in quite a bit of pain.

Overall, another successful evening for our guy. ERA’s still flawless. Working on that walk rate. Getting back into the groove.

Joe Kelly reigns.
