The Dodgers are back in first place.
And they have Joe Kelly to thank.
It was grim. It was so grim, guys. Max Scherzer appeared to have left the game due to injury. The Dodgers’ bullpen had forfeited the lead. New York and New Jersey were being deluged with what seemed to be veritable feet of precipitation. (That was unrelated, but still grim!)
Then, Joe Kelly started moving in the bullpen.
Well, I don’t know exactly when he started moving. I wasn’t at the game. I live in Texas. But the Dodgers scored two in the eighth and would-ya-look-at-that Joe Kelly came in to get the save. Ten pitches. Nine strikes. No strikeouts but who needs strikeouts when you’re a team player? A team player, Joe Kelly is. And now, that team of his is back where you would imagine they would be: first place.
