Winning a Cy Young, winning a World Series, throwing two no hitters, and getting cast off before his performance fizzled was better than any reasonably estimated best-case scenario the first time the Cubs acquired Jake Arrieta, so it’s probably fair that the second go-round went about as badly as it possibly could on the baseball field.
On a similar note, a guy who tweets this at a Pirates fan before single-handedly (ok Schwarber helped) ending their season…
…should not be expected to not be a guy who ends the PR side of his Cubs career by saying to a masked reporter in the press box over Zoom, “I’d love you to take your mask off. I don’t think anybody’s around you,” which would be a dick thing to say even if there were some validity to Arrieta’s stance.
So, yeah. Not a great ending. But in five or ten years we’ll have the memories again. Just need a little time. Hopefully.
