Is Mr. Darkside Still Out There?

The Bangers Bracket is here again (vote here, but please—be cool), and with it renewed fears among the Murderers (we’re just trying it out) of an attack by Mr. Darkside. This is, of course, fair. Last year was traumatic for us all, perhaps including even Mr. Darkside, who interpreted our response to their initial spam votes as pro-Mr. Brightside action (this is an underreported part of the story—our initial reaction accidentally fanned the flames of what became the most sensational conflict in Bangers Bracket history) and seemed a little miffed that this was never addressed more directly.

If you’re curious about this history, we’d recommend our piece from the 2000’s Bangers Bracket finale last year exploring the scandal, and if you’re curious what happened after that, we’d recommend looking at our friend’s role in the May gas shortage on the East Coast.

As far as we know, Mr. Darkside has not yet made an appearance today. There was a possible vote on the bracketing ballot made under that name (sorry, Mr. Darkside, but Drops of Jupiter was released prior to 2010), but for a reason we’ll leave between us and Mr. Darkside, some doubt exists over whether this was really the same actor. As it stands, we think we still have peace, but I’ll admit: I still haven’t figured out who (or who, plural) did it, and that does bother me. A deeper investigation is still in order. Maybe that’ll be a project for the summer. Hopefully it can wait that long.
