Is Maryland’s NIT Dream Dead?

Sorry, Maryland fans. I think it might be over.

The Terps beat Rutgers in Piscataway yesterday, and while they do have some potential bad losses left on the slate (home against Michigan State and Penn State, on the road at Northwestern), it’s just hard to see them losing enough of those to get them back into the promised land.

Maybe next year.

Other notes today:

  • St. Bonaventure beat Davidson in a game that helped no one in the A-10.
  • Penn State didn’t beat Iowa, which is good for their chances but also bad for their chances, because the Nittany Lions are now five games under .500 with only four regular season games left on the schedule, and we just really don’t know what the committee’s gonna think about that, and we’d guess they won’t think on it kindly.
  • Colgate and Navy both won. Will the Patriot League get away with this?
  • Duke hosts Syracuse tonight in a massive bubble showdown. Both will probably stay in the wider version of the projected field with a Duke victory, but that isn’t assured for the loser, and if Syracuse wins, Duke’s gonna be in big trouble.
  • Saint Mary’s hosts Pepperdine, trying to hold onto the narrow ledge.
  • Drake hosts Evansville. One more bad loss oughta do it for the Bulldogs…but would it be too much?

Fresh bracketology tomorrow (we think). Hopefully we get the formal 16-team announcement this week.
