There’s a little meme going around in which whenever Major League Baseball questionably suspends somebody, someone tweets that the Astros received less punishment for banging trash cans, which leads to reply saying Joe Kelly has also been suspended for the actions of whoever’s suspension started the joke. Looks like this:
It’s a good joke.
But what if it isn’t a joke? What if Joe Kelly is suspended? And what if Rob Manfred really is tacking games on every time he suspends someone else, drunk on his baseball-hating power?
With Joe Kelly’s mysterious absence stretching on, one has to wonder whether Joe Kelly is serving another shadow suspension. I’m not saying he is. I would never accuse Rob Manfred of something of which I have no evidence. But we should at least consider the possibility.
