Iowa State, Still Shorthanded, Goes to Starkville

Another weird one.

Iowa State @ Mississippi State

The Opponent

Mississippi State’s pretty bad. They’ve beaten Mizzou and Florida, but they haven’t done a whole lot else, and while there aren’t specific things they do terribly, there isn’t much they do a great job of.

They do, however, crash the offensive glass. Which calls to mind George Conditt, and The Hero of Haarlem.

The Numbers

Vegas has Iowa State a 8.5-point underdog, with the over/under at 135. KenPom has the final score projected at 72-66, and gives Iowa State a 32% chance to win.

What Iowa State Needs to Do

It sounds like it’s the same lineup from Monday, with the possible addition of Jalen Coleman-Lands, so it’s really just about looking for strong individual performances that can serve as bright spots. Defensively, it’s going to be really, really hard to stop Mississippi State given how shorthanded the Cyclones will be. But offensively, there’s a lot you can do with different assortments of guys, so if there aren’t many turnovers, and if the guys make shots, some positives can be taken away from this.
