Many of you have heard, but I saw the Wienermobile in the wild last night. For the second time in my life. It was just as magical as the first.
I’ve never gone to see the Wienermobile intentionally. My dad has, and I would like to, but I’ve never had the chance. Why do I say that? Well, it’s magical to accidentally see the Wienermobile, but I have no idea how it compares to seeking it out.
Accidentally seeing the Wienermobile is partially so great because for a second, you don’t know what you’re looking at. Last night, our uber came around the corner and there, in the parking lot of the Jacksonville Beach Fairfield Inn, was a shape that looked a little like a missile, just looming up out of the dark. A big ol’ wiener, poking into the sky. It took me a few seconds. The vehicle is so massive that you can be too close when you first see it to realize what it is. That’s how large the Wienermobile is. I had to mentally zoom out to process what it was I was looking at.
Then, of course, I walked over for a closer look. The Wienermobile itself! At the hotel next door to mine. And at midnight! The hour you most expect the Wienermobile to come to life, look at you, tell you everything’s going to be ok. It felt divine. Like a shooting star, but with no fear it might merely be a satellite. That was the Wienermobile alright.
I didn’t linger. Didn’t want to be the nineteenth person the hotel had to kick out of their parking lot that night. I didn’t see a soul. It was just me and the Wienermobile, here in Jacksonville Beach. A chance encounter with the fates.
The most beautiful marketing gimmick there ever was.
