The Athletic got a hold of the NASCAR schedule for next year, and for those of you wondering how the Cup Series race here in Austin fits into the NIT calendar, well, thank you for thinking of me.
Allegedly, NASCAR’s coming to the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, March 27th, which should be the Sunday between the NIT Quarterfinals and the NIT Final Four. Total dead period in college basketball. So that’s really helpful.
It does make travel for the Final Four a little tough—assuming we’re back to normal (please, God, let us be back to normal), I’d need to either do a late-night post-NASCAR flight to New York or do an early-morning post-NASCAR flight to New York to make it to the media day—but I’ll be so hopped up on adrenaline that I think that’ll be fine. And man, think of how great this’ll be for Austin-based NASCAR/NIT fans as a whole!
Overall, I’ll call it good news. I won’t sleep in the month of March between the NIT, South by Southwest (again, please God let us be back to normal), and NASCAR, but honestly that sounds kind of fun. I didn’t sleep much Saturday night and I got all my “nonsense” post ideas rattled off for the week in no time the next morning. Historians will look back on this and say, “Oh God, oh no, this is where he really lost it. This is where he really lost it.” And that’s a pretty cool thing to be able to say that they’ll say, six months/eighty years out.
