How to Extinguish a Grease Fire

I hope you aren’t currently experiencing a grease fire. I hope you didn’t just notice a grease fire on your stove and say, “Oh no! I better google how to put this out.” I guess in case you are, though, we need to get right to it.

According to The Internet™, you’re supposed to NOT DO these things:

  • Try to extinguish it with water.
  • Move the pan or pot.

According to The Internet™, you’re supposed to DO these things:

  • Turn off the heat.
  • Cover the pot or pan with a metal lid or some other smothering material.
  • Throw some baking soda on there, but only if the fire is small. (Not gonna help you if it’s big.)
  • Use a fire extinguisher if you’ve got one.
  • Call 9-1-1 and get out of there.

There you go!
