Harvard’s NIT Hopes Might Die Today

Perhaps it isn’t meant to be.

It’s rare for teams to make more than two NIT’s in a row. Heck, it’s rare to make that many, or to even make one. The NIT’s hard to make, guys. You’ve got automatic bids popping up, another committee trying to pull you into their tournament, the every-oppressing weight of your own doubts and fears…hard stuff. Only two teams have made the last two NIT’s, and one of those is Nebraska, who is currently in the hellfires of collegiate basketball for firing America’s Best Friend™, Tim Miles. The other is Harvard, who is not in any hellfires. They’re in no fires whatsoever, I hope. Not that I like Harvard. Just don’t wish fire on many people. I keep that one in the back pocket. Most of the time.

Anyway, Harvard’s made the last two NIT’s, both times as an automatic bid. Their chances of doing so again are very low (and not just because the Ivy League Tournament’s at Harvard this year, but remember, the Ivy League Tournament’s at Harvard this year). They lost both their games last weekend. Can’t do that if you want an NIT automatic bid. They’re two games back of a team that might not lose in conference play. They play that team tonight.
