Glass Is Just Hot Ice

Got a windshield chip fixed this morning.

I have thoughts.

If everything has a melting point, and glass is a thing, glass has a melting point. This means that if it gets hot enough, glass—i.e., our windshields—will melt. This also means that if we were somewhere the temperature never got above ice’s melting point, we could just use ice for all the things for which we currently use glass. We could have ice windshields. This is the premise behind igloos.

Since we agree, then, that glass is pretty much the same thing as ice, just at different temperatures, let’s agree on this too:

Glass is what happens when you make ice hot.
