Burnley lost again this morning, making them the first EPL team to lose in the new decade.
That’s an accomplishment, and something no other EPL team can boast. Fulham held the honor for the last decade, and what a beautiful decade it was for the Whites (that’s what they call Fulham; this is not some sick Donald Trump joke), making the Europa League group stage once, getting relegated, almost getting double-relegated, and getting promoted before immediately being relegated again. If Burnley can follow in those footsteps this decade, ‘twill be a glorious one for the Clarets.
More pressingly, though, we need an answer to something. That something being why in the queen’s good name the EPL keeps making Burnley play when they are clearly playing so poorly. Aston Villa was in the relegation zone entering the match. Man U isn’t exactly Championship League-caliber this year. Everton is as mediocre as ever (you pick up on this quickly if you impulsively decide to peripherally follow the EPL). Burnley’s lost to all three in the span of seven days, yet nobody has called timeout and given them a fortnight off to get their head straight.
Thankfully, after their dangerous FA Cup game Saturday against Peterborough, Britain’s Team gets six days to lick their wounds before…oh hell they play Chelsea next. Then Leicester. Then Man U again. Then Arsenal.
Shit.
