What a difference a year makes.
Last year, Texas Tech’s visit to Austin was a loss for the Longhorns, and seemed at first to be a loss for the city of Austin, as Texas dropped to 4-6 in conference and the Shaka Smart hot seat talk heated up.
This year, we’re talking about an extension for the guy. And while that’s just us talking about it, someone’s gotta join the call eventually, right?

The Opponent
Texas Tech. I don’t know about the rest of Texas, but I like Texas Tech. Of the big schools, they’re the most objectively likable.
That said, my loyalty to Shaka Smart runs deeper, and Mac McClung’s always given me a bad vibe.
What Texas Needs to Do
Keep on winning. The extension can’t be that far away.
On the Court
The guards are going to need to protect the ball, and so is everyone else. Texas Tech’s coming for it, and it’s an area of weakness for the Horns. Similarly, winning the battle on the defensive glass is important and will be hard.
Given those things, though, Texas Tech doesn’t have a ton going for them relative to their hosts. Yes, they’re very strong defensively, and this could be a really quiet night for the nets, but Texas is better on both ends, and the Texas Tech offensive effort isn’t as competent as 2019 might have us believe.
Texas Tech’s a good team. Texas is better.
