March is here, and we’ve got a lot to talk about. The WCC Tournaments start on Thursday. Mike Woodson coaches Indiana for the last time probably on March 12th. (But there’s time to repent, Coach!) In honor of the happenings, today’s is a special two-interview episode of Free Hoops. Double the freedom. Double the hoops. Half the cost.
First, Brenna Greene joins the show from Portland, where she’s an anchor and reporter for KOIN and the reigning Oregon Sports Broadcaster of the year. A Gonzaga alum and Oregon native, Brenna knows the WCC as well as anybody. Obviously, we talked San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Oregon State—the WCC’s main NIT contenders—but we also made room for less significant college basketball teams, like Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. Stick around for that, plus college basketball’s greatest little-known rivalry: The ongoing Gonzaga–Portland struggle in WCC women’s hoops.
After Brenna, Matt Cox arrives. Matt’s one third of Three Man Weave, your favorite college basketball podcaster’s favorite college basketball podcast. Matt also went to Indiana. It was great to get his thoughts on what went wrong with Mike Woodson, what comes next for Indiana, and whether the Hoosiers could make a run at Hinkle Fieldhouse later this month. We even made time for a five-round draft of Indiana coaching candidates. Josh Schertz Hive, we’re not letting the industry pass us by.
